Supporters, opponents clash as Donald Trump makes campaign stop in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Emotions ran high as presumptive presidential candidate Donald Trump held a campaign rally in Richmond Friday night.

Before the rally began, more than 100 protesters marched around the Richmond Coliseum. Witnesses told 8News Reporter Jonathan Costen that a fight broke out after a small group of Trump supporters walked back-and-forth through a crowd of anti-Trump protesters. Police quickly intervened and restored control.

After the rally ended, protesters took to Broad Street and marched through the city.

Richmond Police reported that a “difference in opinion” in Festival Park – located adjacent to the Coliseum – led to five people being detained.

The department later tweeted that, after interviewing all parties, only one person was charged with disorderly conduct.
