HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — A suspect is under arrest after a 17-year-old teenage boy was shot Tuesday afternoon in Hopewell.
The Hopewell Police Department said the teen was found with a gunshot wound to the leg in the 2700 block of Granby Street. The shooting happened at about 4:30 p.m.
The teen is expected to recover and was taken to Chippenham Hospital for further treatment.
Officers said they arrested Reyez Smith, 18, of Hopewell in connection with the shooting.
Police said Smith is expected to be charged with possession of a controlled substance, discharging a firearm within city limits and reckless handling of a firearm resulting in injury.
