(WRIC) — As of 11 a.m. Monday, Tropical Storm Chris has winds of 65 mph and it is stationary off of the coast of North Carolina.
Chris will remain nearly stationary during the next 24 hours and then start to move northeast into the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Chris is anticipated to become a hurricane by late Monday night or early Tuesday morning.
The main threat is strong surf, rip currents and large swells for the Virginia beaches, the Outer Banks and the beaches from Maryland through Delaware.
