Trump supporter charged with election misconduct

DES MOINES, IA (WCMH) — An Iowa woman was arrested last week for voting twice in the election.

Terri Lynn Rote, a 55-year-old Donald Trump supporter, was booked in the Polk County Jail on Thursday. She faces a first-degree charge of election misconduct, which is a Class D felony in Iowa.

Rote said her decision to vote twice was a “spur of the moment thing.” She said she didn’t plan on voting twice, but after she cast her early-voting ballot at the Polk County Election Office she walked by a satellite location and decided to cast another ballot.

“I don’t know what came over me,” Rote told The Washington Post.

In a separate interview with Iowa Public Radio, she said she feared her first ballot would be changed to a vote for Hillary Clinton instead of Donald Trump.

“The polls are rigged,” she said.

Rote was released from jail on Friday with a $5,000 bond. If she is convicted she could spend up to five years in prison.
