CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WRIC) — With two big weekend series ahead, the Virginia Cavaliers and VCU Rams met in Charlottesville tonight for one final non-conference matchup. Although VCU got off to a great start courtesy of Liam Hibbits’ 2-run home run in the first inning, this contest was mostly a back-and-forth that Virginia would get the final say in.
After the Rams scored four runs in the top of the eighth to tie the contest at 7 apiece, the Cavaliers notched one more run in the bottom of the inning to seal the 8-7 victory.
VCU will now look to clinch the Atlantic 10 regular season title this weekend at George Mason.
