SAN JOSE (KRON) – Police in San Jose say a 14-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the carjacking and assault of a 72-year-old man on Wednesday.
According to authorities, it happened just after 10 a.m. at the man’s home in the 3200 block of Coldwater Drive, near Hayworth Drive and Marten Avenue.
Police say the 72-year-old man was unloading groceries from his car when he was approached by the suspect, who flashed his gun and demanded the victim’s car keys.
When the victim refused, the suspect took the keys from the victim and got into the car.
Police say the victim then tried to pull the suspect out of the car and was punched several times before the suspect drove away.
The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries, according to authorities.
The suspect was involved in a hit and run crash in the area near Story Road and McGuinness Drive a short time later after running a red light and colliding with another car.
The suspect got out of the car and ran away from the scene, but was stopped by a witness nearby.
Once the suspect showed his gun, the witness let the suspect go, according to authorities.
Two people inside the other car were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect was arrested at his San Jose home and booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall for carjacking, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and elder abuse.
