LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Getting your packages stolen by porch pirates is aggravating itself, but one teen lost his life-saving medicine.
Gage Haynes, 14, takes eight Reydapt pills every day for his cancer.
“I have Systemic Mastocytosis. It’s a rare form of cancer and it’s just been happening my whole life, so I’m used to it. Now, we’ve finally found a way to help it. My whole life there’s really been nothing,” Gage said.
It was earlier this week when a man with an orange in one hand and a soda can in the other nonchalantly stole two packages from Gage’s front door.
“Once I realized that it was my son’s medication, then I got upset,” his mother, Stacey Shavinsky, said.
It was Gage’s chemotherapy. Within 4 minutes, it was gone. That box that came with a hefty price tag.
“I worked really hard to try and get him that. I did some financial assistance because the medication costs $40,000 a month because it’s not FDA approved for anybody under the age of 18,” Shavinsky said.
She says her family doesn’t want attention. They just want the meds back.
“It really helps me out a lot. I would feel a lot better, so I can go to school, get good grades, get a good job, so just please return it,” Gage said.
His mom is working with the pharmaceutical company to try to get some help.
