NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTNH) – Police in Connecticut are investigating after officers say a boy and girl had sex in an art class and another student recorded the act. Then, posted the video on social media.

Parents who 8News affiliate WTNH spoke with say they were disheartened by this news. Police say they worked quickly to get the video off social media.

“I mean, it is a little bit shocking,” said Rosa Gonzalez. “He (her son) said that yes, there was a teacher that with some of the kids in the way. Maybe the teacher didn’t notice? But, yes there was a teacher in the classroom.”

New Britain police say two students — a 17-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy — had sex in a crowded New Britain High School classroom Thursday. The video spread quickly among students. Police say the two juveniles are in a relationship and it’s unclear if the knew they were being recorded.

“As a parent, it does worry you, but they had a quick reaction to let everybody know the same day,” said Gonzalez.

As soon as teachers learned about the video from students, the principal said he alerted staff and parents.

The statement said an incident in school involved, “inappropriate conduct between a male and female student which was later shared on social media.

It continued, “Please be assured the safety of our students and staff is always our highest priority.”

One mom did not want to be on camera,  but says she’s immediately going to speak with her kids.

“It’s funny you try to keep your children innocent as long as you can and the more you have to teach them about life, the more you take away their innocence,” she said.

Capt. Jeanette Portalatine from New Britain Police said, “It’s a delicate situation. We have to handle it appropriately and we’re going to keep investigating and get to the bottom of it.”

Late Monday afternoon, police stated that the juveniles had each been issued a juvenile summons charging them with one count each of public indecency and risk of injury or impairing the moral of children.

“If the teacher’s present in the room and is aware of what’s going on, obviously there’s going to be an issue there at this point we don’t know if the teacher was there or not. We’re getting two different stories,” said Portalatine.

The school board did not bring up the issue at a regular meeting on Monday evening.
