WOODBRIDGE, Va. (WRIC) — Police have detained a male suspect accused of abducting and raping an 11-year old girl who was on her way to school in northern Virginia Tuesday morning.
Authorities said the victim was on her way to school along Essex Drive when an unknown man grabbed her and implied that he had a weapon with him.
The suspect, identified by police as 26-year old Adam-Seth Walter, then forced his way into a nearby home and attacked a woman before fleeing the area with the girl, according to police.
According to a release from Prince William County Police, another occupant of the residence heard Walter in the home and attempted to intervene.
The suspect then took the juvenile to an unknown location on Cumberland Drive where he sexually assaulted her before releasing her. The girl fled on foot and was located by responding officers a short time later.
Police collected evidence from the scene linking the crime to Walter. While conducting an unrelated investigation in the area, Walter was detained by authorities without incident
Walter has been charged with multiple felonies and remains in custody, according to Prince William County Police.
