RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Over 14,000 old or torn American flags were delivered to the Virginia War Memorial on Wednesday by the Woody and Nelson Funeral Home.

The funeral home teamed up with the American Legion post in Colonial Heights as part of a flag exchange program that kicked off in May. The flags were brought to the war memorial for proper disposal.

More than 950 new flags were given out for free.
