LANCASTER COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — The bodies of two boaters who went missing Sunday on the Rappahannock River near Mosquito Point were both recovered.

Deputy Commissioner Ellen Bolen with the Virginia Marine Resources Commission says Mark Ringenberg’s body was recovered after someone reported seeing it on the shore near Mosquito Point in the morning, while Stephen Perkins’ body was spotted by plane and recovered around 2 p.m..

Ringenberg and Perkins were both 59, and left from Weems on Sunday. That night, the pair’s boat was found with keys in the ignition and shoes on the boat’s deck.

Crews from the U.S. Coast Guard, VRMC, Lancaster County, Middlesex County and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries were all dispatched in the search, with the Coast Guard calling off its search Monday night after a combined 63 hours.

At this time, it’s still unclear what led up to the pair’s death.
