AMHERST CO., Va. – The Virginia Department of Emergency Management and SARs called off the search for Chad Austin, a man missing out of Buena Vista, Virginia since Memorial Day.

Investigators said he has not been found, but they have exhausted all their resources.

During a search on Thursday, a Virginia State Police K9 Team recovered a set of keys that belonged to Mr. Austin on the road not far from the car he had been driving. The key to the car was not found.

Austin’s car was found abandoned, with a dog inside, on Panther Falls Road Tuesday close to one p.m. The dog was rescued from the car.

Deputies then reached out to Austin’s family, who decided not to file a missing person report at that time.

Austin was last seen on Monday. He was officially reported missing on Wednesday.

He is described as 6’0″ tall, anywhere between 150-170 pounds, with brown hair and eyes.

Several other agencies, including Virginia State Police, SAR, US Park Police and other agencies, are actively searching for Austin.
