VIDEO: Traffic backed up after fiery tractor-trailer crash on Beltway in Fairfax County

Virginia News

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A tractor-trailer crash has caused a massive backup on the Capital Beltway near Alexandria, Virginia on Thursday afternoon.

According to an 8News affiliate, WJLA, the tractor-trailer jackknifed, overturned and caught fire and multiple lanes in both directions on the Beltway’s inner and outer loops have been closed since.

VDOT has since tweeted that all lanes of the Beltway Outer Loop have reopened and the inner loop is closed for cleanup. There is still at least a five-mile backup, according to VDOT.

Virginia State Police tweeted that the trailer caught fire in the westbound lanes of I-495 near the Van Dorn Street exit.

Authorities said no injuries were reported in the crash. VDOT tweeted out a video update after the crash occurred almost two hours ago.
