BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR News) — Virginia Tech is being credited with contributing to Amazon’s decision to locate one of its headquarters in Virginia.

The university plans to build a 1 million-square-foot, technology-focused “Virginia Tech Innovation Campus” in Alexandria.

According to a VT spokesman, the $1 billion project is part of a comprehensive higher-education package that was cited as a key reason Amazon selected the northern Virginia location.

More than 200 localities across the country competed to win Amazon’s HQ2 and its estimated 50,000 jobs.
