PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — Repairs to a water main that broke early Saturday morning on West Washington Street in Petersburg have been completed.

A spokesperson for the City of Petersburg said the break was reported around 1 a.m. Saturday. The city said in a statement to 8News at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday that water has been restored to all residents.

In a statement, the spokesperson said “the age and condition of the line was significantly worse than expected.”

Residents should run cold water until the it runs clear if any discoloration is noted.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area around the repair work until the street can be repaved on Monday. The city says vehicle entrances to the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School will be open.
