Boy, 11, leads cops on chase in mom’s SUV after PlayStation taken away

Weird News

CLEVELAND, Ohio (CNN/WEWS) – An 11-year-old boy led Cleveland police on a high-speed chase, after taking his mom’s car Sunday night.

It wasn’t the first time he has taken the family car — it was the third time, according to WEWS-TV.

Brooklyn, Ohio police spotted the SUV just before 11 p.m. Sunday

“All right, that vehicle’s running on me,” a police sergeant was heard on the radio.

Within seconds, the chase was on.

The driver was running red lights and shutting his lights off while speeding through town.

“He’s pulling away from me. I’m doing 75,” an officer told dispatchers during the chase.

What no one realized was the driver was just 11-years-old, according to police.

Investigators say he took his mom’s car after she went to bed.  WKYC-TV reported the mother took away the boy’s PlayStation, so he swiped her SUV.

The joyride came to a crashing end.

Cops say the boy, who was no longer being chased, wasn’t paying attention and slammed into a parked pickup truck in Cleveland about 20 minutes later.

The boy was treated, then released from the hospital.

That’s when investigators got another surprise.

The boy’s parents say he’s the same kid who led troopers on a 50-mile chase along the turnpike last October.

That incident happened just days after he took his mom’s car and left it with flat tires on I-90.

That time, his dad said his son did it thinking it was a joke and that nothing would happen to him.

His mom told investigators he was charged with taking the car.

But the case was dropped after a judge ruled the boy wasn’t competent to stand trial.
