EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A borderland woman has died weeks after complications at a Juarez plastic surgery clinic, KTSM reports.

As KTSM previously reported, Laura Avila, 36, was placed in a coma on Oct. 30 after suffering cardiac arrest from anesthesia at the Rino Clinic.

According to a Facebook post from Avila’s sister, Angie, the Dallas realtor died Saturday about 8:30 a.m.

“My heart aches, and I truly don’t know how or if I’ll ever overcome this pain,” Angie Avila wrote in the post. “She’s the love of my life, and I know she will continue to watch over me and guide me just as she always has.”

Avila was brought back to an El Paso hospital following the incident, her family said.

According to Avila’s husband, Enrique Cruz, the Juarez clinic would not release the type of anesthesia used or her medical records.

“I just want to let the public know that these places market to the community on this side of the border and they must stop these clinics,” Cruz told KTSM. “They must be shut down.”

A GoFundMe page created to help the Avila family cover hospital expenses has raised more than $80,000 in just over two weeks.
