Woman ejected, killed in Dinwiddie County crash; infant passenger unharmed

EMPORIA, Va. (WRIC) — An infant passenger appeared unharmed following a single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of an Emporia woman in Dinwiddie County Monday night. 

The crash occurred at around 8:40 p.m. Monday night on Route 619 (Courthouse Road) and Route 734 (Rainey Road). 

According to Virginia State Police, 30-year-old Krista Danielle Kendall of Emporia was driving a 2003 Honda Accord southbound on Route 619 when she crossed the center line and ran off the road, striking several trees. 

Kendall, who was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, died at the scene, according to police.

There was also an infant passenger in the vehicle who was securely fastened in a child safety restraint and showed no visible signs of injury, police added.

The child was placed in the care of Child Protective Services.  

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
