Woman recounts terrifying moments trying to save nephew during Richmond double shooting

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Police in Richmond and Henrico County are investigating after two people were shot in a neighborhood near Richmond International Raceway Tuesday evening.

Officers responded to reports of a person shot at the intersection of E. Ladies Mile Road and Delmont Street shortly after 5:30 p.m.

When they arrived, they found a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

The victim’s aunt, who asked to remain anonymous, found herself at the center of the gunfire.

“I’m literally standing right in front of one of the guys that was shooting,” she told 8News. “It was the most scary feeling I’ve ever endured in my life. Just bullets going everywhere. All I hear is shots and bullets.”

The woman added that she was trying to stop the bleeding from her nephew’s stomach when she noticed he had also been shot in his back.

According to the eyewitness, the shooting stemmed from an altercation involving two women and a man.

“It was two girls fighting and the guy started hitting one of the girls. My nephew was trying to break that up basically and the guy retaliated.”

A short time later, police say another victim arrived at VCU Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the suspect left the scene, possibly armed with a handgun and possibly driving a blue vehicle. Investigators are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.Click here to check on crime in your area.Find 8News on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram; send your news tips to iReport8@wric.com.
