RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — In the Siegel Center’s 127th consecutive sellout game, with an arena of 7,637 VCU fans strong, the Rams earned a pivotal 76-71 win over former Rams coach Anthony Grant and the Dayton Flyers. 

It was redshirt junior guard Marcus Evans who scored VCU’s final seven points, including a go-ahead three-pointer with 33 seconds left in the game. 

Mike Rhoades says that Evans is, “Making that play at that time just make it is worth going through all of this.”

Evans, a local talent, who played two seasons at Rice with coach Rhoades and found his way back to his home state to play in black and gold.

Coach Rhoades knowing Evans background and path, he says, “you are rooting for a guy like that and all that he has been through and all that stuff.”

Marcus Evans credits the influence and strength from his teammates, “you can come up with any routine, but at the end of the day, when it is at the end of the game you have to step up and make them.” 

The Rams back in action on Saturday at 6:30 pm when they host UMASS.
