RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — We set the bar high with our first ‘Athlete of the Week’ for the month of January and the new year of 2019. Richmond native, Will Turner, has completed his yearlong journey completing his 60th triathlon at age 60 and he’s just getting started.

Turner says, “this year I am going to continue the journey and do 40 more so that I hit 100 in the two year period, one hundred ironmans.”

Ironman triathlon participants, like Turner, swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and run 26.2 miles during the course of the race.

Turner has literally covered a lot of ground. Events he’s entered have gone across 15  different states and he’s driven over 75,000 miles from one event to the next.

“I have swum with stingrays and seals and sharks and alligators over the last year,” Turner told 8News. “I have climbed mountains I have been at 10,000-foot elevation in Yosemite onto yoga paths. I’ve run through death valley.”
