RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Mike Young has been hired by Virginia Tech as their new men’s basketball head coach.

Virginia Tech announced the hire Sunday night as the 55-year-old Young replaces Buzz Williams who went to Texas A&M.

Mike Young first joined Wofford as an assistant coach in 1989 and moved to head coach beginning with the 2002-03 season.

Young took Wofford to five NCAA Tournaments, including this season where the Terriers were a No. 7 seed and advanced to the second round.

His career head coaching record is 299-244.

Young is from Radford, VA and will be introduced on Monday at 11 a.m.
