ASHLAND, Va. (WRIC) — For the first time in program history, Randolph-Macon softball advanced to the NCAA Tournament Super Regional after capturing a Regional title over the weekend.
“This is the first time we’ve ever been this far so that’s definitely awesome,” says senior Candace Whittemore. “I think the team has really come together to be able to play in May.”
Next up for the Yellow Jackets is No. 11 Christopher Newport, a team that R-MC is familiar with after playing them twice during the regular season.
“We both have strong hitting teams,” says senior Brittany LaPrade. “I think it’s going to come down to who wants it more…so it’s going to be a great game.”
“They swing it really, really well. We’ve been swinging it really, really well,” said head coach Kevin Proffitt. “They probably got a little more pop than we do in terms of power so we’ll have to be careful how we pitch certain hitters.”
The best-of-three series begins at CNU on Friday.
