RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Get ready to ‘Go Nuts’ because the Richmond Flying Squirrels will open their 10th season to a sold-out crowd Thursday evening at The Diamond.
The franchise has had a sellout for all 10 home openers in the team’s history, dating back to the inaugural 2010 season.
Todd ‘Parney’ Parnell, vice president and chief operating officer for the Squirrels, gave 8News a look inside the Diamond before the home opener.
“We are so grateful to be here and to be working in a place we love so very much. Be loud and HAVE FUNN tonight,” Parney said.
The Flying Squirrels have won four consecutive home openers entering Thursday’s match-up with the Hartford Yard Goats, dating back to 2015. Overall, Richmond is 7-2 in its first game of the season at The Diamond.
Former Richmond Brave and MLB All-Star Ryan Klesko will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. He’ll be available for a meet and greet after, where he’ll sign autographs.
The ballpark gates will open at 5 p.m. and, of course, there will be dueling fireworks after the game.
