WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — If you haven’t been paying attention to Esports then now is a good time.

Colleges have been offering Esports scholarships and Austin Swisher, a Williamsburg native, just won a national championship.

Swisher and the Harrisburg University Storm captured the Overwatch national title at the inaugural ESPN Collegiate Esports Championship in Houston, TX.

“Overwatch is a first person objective based shooter with different heroes,” said Swisher. “What you’re trying to do is compete as a team of six against another team of six and complete an objective.”

Austin Swisher was attending community college when he got the opportunity to earn a scholarship at Harrisburg University for their Esports team.

“I saw they were looking for full scholarships and it almost looked like it wasn’t real,” adds Swisher.

Swisher, who is on a full scholarship, is studying business analytics and says he would love to continue his career as an Esports player.

The Harrisburg Storm finished their season with an undefeated record.
