It is ‘March Ratness’ at the Science Museum of Virginia.
This morning rats representing Michigan, Loyola, Villanova and Kansas competed in the ‘Final Fur’ tournament in front of a cheering crowd of spectators wearing their favorite team’s colors.
Just like the basketball players where they draw their inspiration, the four-legged athletes shot a ball through a hoop.
“We thought it would be really fun to see the animals do the tricks,” says Mollie Morneau, who took in the action with her daughter Cosette. “My sister is here with us too, and she wasn’t sure they would actually dunk the basketball.”
Spectators of all ages waved pom poms as the rats, in fact, dunked the basketball and earned points.
In the end, a rat named Asima, who played for Michigan, won the title.
The Museum says the annual Final Fur tournament has accurately predicted the men’s NCAA champion two times in the past.
