RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A driver that was seriously injured in a crash near Mechanicsville Turnpike on I-64 west this morning has been charged with reckless driving.
According to Virginia State Police, the driver was injured in a single-vehicle crash that happened at 5:20 a.m. VSP said a truck that was pulling a boat ran off the road to the left and struck the guardrail.
The truck driver was identified as 48-year-old Jeffrey S. Gregory of Midlothian. Authorities said he was the only person inside the truck at the time of the accident. He is being treated at a hospital for serious injuries.
Gregory has been charged with reckless driving failure to maintain control.
The Virginia Department of Transportation closed I-64 W lanes for nearly two hours. Drivers were encouraged to use Nine Mile Road as an alternate route. As of 7:40 a.m., all lanes have reopened.
