GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — All lanes of Broad Street near Route 288 reopened nearly five hours after a construction incident brought down power lines Monday morning.
Virginia State Police told 8News at the scene it happened at around 8:30 a.m. as crews were doing work on the lines. They said an excavator claw caught one of the power lines, causing the pole snap from the pressure.
Officials said at 10 a.m. that Broad St. would likely be closed for another 2-3 hours as Dominion crews work to replace a split power pole.
State Police was also on scene directing traffic.
There are no reported injuries.
VDOT said just after 1 p.m. that all eastbound and westbound lanes are now open.
