HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A second water main break along Lauderdale Drive in Henrico County will likely force a portion of the road to remain closed through Saturday morning.
Northbound Lauderdale Drive between Cambridge Drive and John Rolfe Parkway is blocked off to all traffic and will remain closed through at least Saturday morning. Southbound lanes were also closed, but reopened just before 9 a.m.
A county official said water service was restored to 15 customers who were affected by the first break at around 1 p.m. But shortly thereafter, another unrelated break occurred on the same line, leaving each of those same 15 customers without water again. It is unclear at this time how long those residents will be without service.
Henrico DPU is providing bottled water to those affected.
Residents say the water came gushing out of the ground near Lochwood Driver around 1:30 a.m. and continued into the late morning hours.
“It got worse as the time went on,” neighbor Christy Whitner told 8News. “I woke up with cops and police officers blocking off the road.”
