HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A tractor-trailer driver was charged following a crash involving a beer truck on Interstate 295.
The crash happened at about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday at mile marker 23, which is about one mile north of Route 5.
According to Virginia State Police, a 2014 Volvo tractor-trailer, driven by Clarence M. Henderson of Fredericksburg, rear-ended a 2018 Peterbilt.
The Peterbilt, driven by Lamont Chapman, 38, of Newport News, was hauling keg beer, which was lost due to the crash.
Henderson, 36 was wearing his seat belt and was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, state police said. The male driver of the Peterbilt was also wearing his seat belt and was not injured.
Henderson was charged with reckless driving.
All northbound lanes were closed as crews cleaned up debris on the roadway, and traffic was being diverted onto New Market Road. At about 8:30 a.m., the right and center lanes reopened to traffic, but the left lane remained closed for crash cleanup.
At about 9:15 a.m., VDOT said all lanes reopened to traffic.
The crash remains under investigation.
