Lanes reopened following multi-vehicle crash on I-64 in Goochland


GOOCHLAND, Va. (WRIC) — A multi-vehicle crash in Goochland caused a 2.5-mile-long backup on Wednesday evening, according to VDOT.

The incident closed all eastbound lanes near mile market 172.8 near Rockville Road around 7 p.m.

Lanes reopened by 8:20 p.m. The backup began to clear after lanes were reopened.

According to Virginia State Police, the crash occurred when a pickup truck changed from the left lane to the right and hit the back of a box truck. The box truck spun out and overturned after being hit. The pickup truck also hit another car, a Mazda 3, from behind before running in to the median.

The pickup truck collided with a tree in the median and the driver had to be taken to the hospital. State police says the injuries are serious.

The box truck driver suffered minor injuries.
