RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Local businesses are stepping up to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
In Richmond, Jack Brown’s Beer and Burger Joint is donating 100% of profits this week to the American Red Cross.
All ten of the restaurant’s locations will be participating in this fundraiser. Six of those locations are right here in Virginia.
The general manager said this fundraiser is like nothing they have ever done before.
“This is the first time we have done this as a company,” said Alexandra Kontos, General Manager of Jack Brown’s Richmond.

Jack Brown’s Beer and Burger Joint has hosted a number of fundraisers for charities since they opened in Richmond in 2015. But never before has all ten locations from Virginia to Alabama, donated 100% of their profits to the same cause.
“Instead of the owners taking their profits, it will go directly to help other who are in extreme and dire need,” Kontos said.
Since announcing the fundraiser on Facebook late Monday night the restaurant already has crowds of people coming in to help.

“It’s a nice cohesive feeling that we can come together and help each other,” said customer Leon Litz.
Litz said aside from wanting to help, he also knows people who have gone to Texas to volunteer.
“I have a friend, a couple of friends that right now are in boats, walking boats around helping to pull people out,” Litz said. “Helping out just with rescuing people.”

Jack Brown’s said their sole intent is to help Hurricane Harvey victims, but they also hope fundraisers like this will bring the local community together.
“We want people to come together,” Kontos said. “We want people to come together for a common goal, a common idea, a common theme.”
All week they will be running different promotions including partnerships with local breweries.
The fundraiser goes on until Sunday, September 3rd.
The Jack Brown’s location in Richmond is at 5810 Grove Avenue, it is open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. every day.
