RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A Special Weather Statement was issued for several localities in the Richmond area Saturday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, the special weather statement was in effect in Richmond, Petersburg, Henrico, Chesterfield, Powhatan, New Kent, Goochland, Powhatan and Amelia until 3 p.m. Saturday.

Residents of the affected areas were encouraged to stay indoors until the severe weather has subsided.
